Mind Stories is an iimprovised collaboration between photographer Wendy D and performer Tara Cheyenne Friednberg, who, within the limited confines of her kitchen counter, interprets a mental breakdown. Wendy captures the anguish and the beauty of the unravelling.

I have been captivated and motivated by the intimate, physical process of collaborating with movers through the creation of images for over fifteen years. I want to push further, collaborating to distill ideas through choreographic exploration: combining choreography, story, sound, presentation through installation, digital projection, and performance. I have had the privilege of working with incredible dancer/choreographers (Tara Cheyenne, Out Innerspace). During our collaborations creating imagery for specific shows, I have come to understand the power of connection, intuition, experimentation, and trust. I want to elevate my art above just images, to create and participate in the whole conversation.

Tara and I have photographed the first phase of this project, which was inspired by my personal story of a breakdown. We both came to the session with our own ideas of what we would do, then we just created, improvising on the spot. With no end product in mind, we just created. The process was exhilarating as Tara moved and I photographed. The resulting imagery tells a story.

From our session we created a film that was viewed during ROVE, Mount Pleasant’s art crawl, in May 2018 and in the Women in Film Festival March 0f 2018

The Cultch honoured me with a solo gallery show of prints in September 2018, during which I gave an artist talk as part of BC Culture Days.
