Look at us Now
The Year: 2020. The world comes to a complete halt due to a global pandemic. We are asked to stay inside, isolate. We communicate only through … THE INTERNET!
Nope, not a bad movie plot, but real life. It’s been hard, and we aren’t completely out of it yet. Some people started creating. I walked, every day, in the neighbourhood. I did take some photos, but was I creating? No, I just couldn’t do it. I could see so many people digging in and … doing. I was mesmerized. Watching social media, I could see the world had changed. People were starting to see things differently, with time at home, no crazy schedules, making meals in their own kitchen, spending time with family and pets. I wondered about people’s perceptions of themselves. As a photographer I deal with people’s insecurities about themselves and their physical appearance. Would people change their self-perception? I put out a call (it’s how I do most projects now) and I asked people to take selfies and answer some questions for what turned out to be eight weeks. Right now I’m in the process of photographing—in my studio, with appropriate social distancing!—some of the participants with their “after pandemic” hairstyles.
Keep an eye out for this project. It’s still being created!
