Meet... Roslyn Muir

I would like you to meet Roslyn Muir, this year's recipient of the Women in film's Spotlight award - Sharon Gibbon Lifetime Member Award. This award honours a member in recognition of her volunteer work with WIFTV advancing the organization’s goals in the BC film and television community. Roslyn Muir served on the WIFTV board in 2001-2003 as Secretary and President, then again in 2007-2010 as Treasurer in charge of sponsorship and Chair of the Vancouver Women in Film Festival. Being one of only three film festivals in Canada featuring women filmmakers, Roslyn ensured that the VWIFF continued to be available for women filmmakers in B.C.Ros is one amazing lady whom I have had the privilege of working with many times through the years.RosMuir-3103My name is Roslyn Muir and I'm a screenwriter, producer, and novelist. I spend a lot of my time at my desk writing and rewriting, so often feel like I'm a bit under a rock these days.

I do like to be active in the development of my projects so help by producing when I can. OMG, a comedy short that I wrote and produced, premiered at VIFF in 2012 and is screening at the Vancouver International Women in Film Festival on March 8. I'm really proud of this little film and the bonus in making it was that I found a dream team to work with and that's really what it's all about. When you look forward to meetings and developing projects with the same people, it's extremely rewarding.

I write because I have to. When the muse strikes, you really have no other choice. Since doing my MFA in Creative Writing at UBC, I've become a full time writer and really can't see doing anything else. School gave me discipline and I've come to enjoy the neck cramps and back aches from prolonged computer use;) It means I'm getting stuff done! My newest adventure is writing a YA novel, The Chimera's Apprentice. It was my MFA thesis and it's taken on a life of it's own. It's really inspiring to find another genre of writing that I love.
I'm also inspired by working as a story editor and helping other writers with their projects. I'm so impressed by the amount of writing talent there is in the world, and to be a part of fostering it in others. I try to mentor new writers whenever I can. It's really rewarding work.
